Overview
Charles Heidsieck Rosé Millesime 2008
Introduction:
The 2008 rosé will always hold a special place in the Charles Heidsieck range of vintage rosés, with an exceptional longevity taking it to culmination in the second half of the 21st century.
This vintage will blithely withstand the test of time with exhilarating freshness.
Tasting Notes:
A sublime soft pink robe.
The initial rose is saline and mineral, underlined by a hint of toast and smoke. Notes of citrus, pink grapefruit, blood orange and red current gradually follow. A discreet fruitiness with more intense notes will be unveiled time. Morello cherries, liquorice and black tea.
The exuberant mouthfeel is cubic with the typical vivacity of the vintage. The finish is long and creamy, with extremely delicate effervescence at the very end. It is paradoxical to find a wine of such great freshness paired with a structure of such restrained power.
Winemaking:
Comprising 11 meticulously selected Grands and Premiers Crus, the Rosé Millésimé 2008 presents a blend of 63% Pinot Noir - including 9% red wines - and 37% Chardonnay. The dosage, significantly lower than in previous vintages, is designed to set off the wine's tart, thirst-quenching character in its early youthful freshness.
The same decision was made for the 2008 white vintage.
Background Information:
Charles Heidsieck is one of most admired Champagne houses thanks to the unrivalled and consistently high quality of its wines. The current range is one of the most awarded collections of wines in the world, something underlined when Chef de Cave Thierry Roset was named 'Sparkling Winemaker of the Year' at the International Wine Challenge this year. This was the 15th time that Charles Heidsieck's winemaking team had won this award, but the first for Thierry, who has been working at the house since 1988. He took over the reins in 2012, having worked with both the great Régis Camus and the legendary Daniel Thibault. This winemaking legacy, paired with the house's flamboyant history since its foundation in 1851 by the man who would become known as 'Champagne Charlie', makes it a unique offering from Champagne: a house with great wines, champagne heritage and proven quality throughout its range.
Charles Heidsieck benefit from the richness available across the entire Champagne region, having built exceptional relationships with the most experienced growers. They select grapes from 120 crus across the Champagne appellation.
